Here's a bitchin', budget-friendly guide to Amsterdam that's perfect for first-timers. Check out our itinerary for the >48 hours we were in the city that I would encourage all first-timers to include as part of their their trip for less than $200.

Disclaimer: the pricing does not include flights to/from your home city, food, or taxi/Ubers and prices for specific joint costs (like hotels) were split between 2 people.

WHERE WE STAYED:

The Quentin Hotel, which was $109/night for 2 nights split between 2 people = $109 each. Nice, quaint hotel on the canals. Really good spot, pretty central to everything. Rooms and elevators were extremely small.

DAY 1:

  • Rent a bike - It's a great, cheap way to get around vs. taking taxi or Uber. But be careful if you're not too experienced riding one, they're all professionals here = $15/bike for 2 days

  • Check out the iconic ‘I amsterdam’ sign and get a pic - I've actually heard that they're taking this down, so hurry and go before it does = free!

  • Visit the Van Gogh Museum! Go after 3PM if you can so it's less crowded, it will only take about an hour or so go get through = $20/ticket

  • Take a walk through the Red Light District = free! (please don’t participate in anything there though)

DAY 2:

  • Take on the seat on the bench featured in The Fault in Our Stars - this is for all you YA movie buffs, you will know exactly what this spot was. The bench is located at Leidsegracht 4 = free!

  • Take a tour of the Anne Frank House – This is one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. You'll get to walk through the museum that talks about the holocaust in general, but then you'll get to open the bookcase, climb up the ladders, and walk around the very small space Anne Frank and her friends/family were in for years. You'll even get to see her ACTUAL diary on display. Be sure to buy tickets ahead our you’ll be waiting in line forever = $10/ticket

  • Explore Dam Square – enjoy rides, food, shopping, and historical spots = free!

  • Enjoy the beautiful canals and take a tour = $17/ticket

XOXO, Cam
